The New York Stylist x #KibouStyles

Liz Teich New York Stylist

How would you describe your own personal style?

Effortless, polished, with a NY edge and a touch of a nod to the 70's.

You've been a stylist for over a decade, featured on tv and amazing print outlets, including Glamour Magazine, PureWow, and Parents Magazine to name a few. How did you get your start?

I started my career as an intern and freelance for a popular fashion label called Chaiken, then as an art director on advertising campaigns and then apprenticed/assisted stylists on ad campaigns for years before styling on my own for major retailers.

I started a blog 10 years ago after styling bloggers for the T.J.Maxx "Maxxinista" campaigns and realized I have expertise under my belt that I could share with others. That's how my brand The New York Stylist was born.

What tips do you have for new moms who are looking to revamp their post-baby wardrobe?

Hire a stylist of course. :) My biggest tip is to not feel like you need to revamp your entire wardrobe and buy new things, but do focus on only purchasing timeless quality staples that are functional, will last, are machine washable, and can be easily thrown on with anything and instantly you feel pulled together.

The biggest mistake I made after my first kid was to buy tons of cheap pieces that last only a season or only for the purpose of having a baby. I've come to learn in my 5 years of being a mom and expanding my business as a personal stylist, that 1 quality piece that you'll have for years (or even retain its value to sell!) can be more cost effective than buying a few cheap ones.

What's your dream gig?

I'm kind of doing it already but I'd love to expand my business and reach more people, while also advocating for more sustainability in the fashion industry.

What trends are you loving for Fall and Winter 2021?

It's funny because I resisted athleisure the whole pandemic and I've finally given in now that there are SO many cute and sustainable options. I'm really into quarter zip/button pullovers, anything faux leather, retro style sneakers, loafers and clogs. I'm all about being comfortable yet polished.

Are there any female-founded brands you are coveting?

I LOVE supporting female-founded brands. I worked with Tulerie to rent pieces for a recent magazine cover and to wear to fashion week—I love what she's created with that. Some of my favorite female-founded clothing brands are Doen, Misha & Puff, M.M.LaFleur, Love The Label, and Merlette. I'm also loving Just For You Mama boxes (they make amazing gifts) and it's how I discovered Kibou!
